Standard Legal Contract Staffing, Interim Staffing And Attorney Placement Fees

Listed below are general staffing fees and recruiting fees invoiced to law firms and corporate legal departments in the United States. Due to a myriad of lawyer compensation systems developed by firms in the U.S., information listed here is general and non-binding. When DRI conducts an attorney search, on either a contingency or retained basis, the commission that DRI receives is determined as a percentage of the lawyer's base salary, not the total cash compensation. DRI does not include income generated by attorneys through bonuses and profit sharing when determining recruiting fees.

Under most circumstances, DRI is willing to negotiate the fee structure during the proposal phase of a staffing or recruiting engagement. DRI is normally willing to provide legal staffing and attorney recruiting services on a reduced-fee basis if certain parameters of the staffing contract or recruiting contract are modified.

Legal staffing fees and attorney recruiting fees change based on certain criteria such as the duration of the staffing contract, the difficulty of the recruiting assignment, the urgency of attorney placements and certain geographical parameters.

Legal Contract Staffing Rates

 DRI places legal professionals at law firms and corporate legal departments that perform company specific functions for a specific time period, at a specified hourly rate.

  • Hourly Rate For Entry Level Paralegals: Starting at $40
  • Hourly Rate For Specialized Paralegals: Starting at $50
  • Hourly Rate For Paraprofessionals: Starting at $60
  • Hourly Rate For Law/Legal Clerks: Starting at $60
  • Hourly Rate For Legal Assistants/Secretaries: Starting at $30
  • Hourly Rate For Mid-Senior Level Legal Assistants/Secretaries: Starting at $35
  • Hourly Rate For Entry Level Associate Attorneys: Starting at $65
  • Hourly Rate For Mid-Level Associate Attorneys: Starting at $85
  • Hourly Rate For Senior Level Associate Attorneys: Starting at $100

 Fee Structure For Contingency And Retained Recruiting Of Attorneys

  • Law Firm Associate Recruiting Fee: Contingency recruiting fees for the placement of an associate attorney or non-partner attorney start at 20% of the attorney's first year base salary. Typical salaries for associate attorneys recruited and placed by DRI range from $50K to $150K.  First-year associate salaries can range as high as $190,000 at firms located in cities like New York.  DRI's contingency recruiting fees to source talented junior attorneys range from $10K to $30K. Retained search fees range from $12K to $37K.
  • Lateral Partner Or Equity Partner Recruiting Fee: Contingency recruiting fees for the placement of attorney for a law firm partner position start at 20% of the law firm partners' first year base salary. Typical salaries for law firm partners recruited and placed by DRI range from $85K to $350K.  DRI's contingency recruiting fees to source law firm partners range from $17K to $70K.  In places like Silicon Valley, law firm partner salaries can be over $1 million. Retained search fees range from $21K to $87K .
  • In-House Counsel Recruiting Fee: Contingency recruiting fees for the placement of in-house counsel attorney position at a corporation or business start at 20% of the attorney's first year base salary. Typical salaries for in-house counsel attorney, general counsel attorney or corporate counsel attorney recruited and placed by DRI range from $100K to $250K.  DRI's contingency recruiting fees to source an in-house lawyer, Associate GC, Assistant GC or chief legal officer for a U.S. company range from $25K to $50K.  Retained search fees range from $25K to $62K.
  • Temporary Attorney Or Contract Attorney Recruiting Fee: Contingency recruiting fees for the placement of a temporary or contract attorney start at 20% of the attorney's salary, contract or hourly compensation. Typical salaries paid to contract attorneys recruited by DRI range from $75K to $200K. DRI's contingency recruiting fees to source talented junior attorneys range from $15K to $40K.  Retained search fees range from $18K to $50K.

 Executive Search Fee Structure For Law Firms And Corporate Legal Departments

  • Contingency recruiting fees for the placement of a C-Level, VP or Senior Executive for a law firm or corporate legal department start at 20% of the executive's first year base salary.
  • Retained search fees for the placement of a C-Level, VP or Senior Executive for a law firm or corporate legal department start at 25% of the executive's first year base salary.
